The programme is doing well.The targets are being met. The reports look good. The donor is happy.Then someone asks a question that changes the conversation:'“But are womens lives actually getting better?”And no one has a clear answer, because all this time they were busy, being busy. I've encountered different versions of this situation throughout my career.Organisations collecting mountains of data but struggling to explain what has changed. Programmes designed to empower women without fully understanding the barriers they face. Communities invited to participate in decisions they had little influence over.And sometimes, everyone knows something is not working, but nobody quite knows how to address it.This is where I come in.I am an independent Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) specialist and strategic facilitator with over 20 years of experience working with UN agencies, governments, foundations and civil society organisations.I help organisations get beneath the surface of their programmes, strategies and results.Sometimes that means unpacking why a well-intentioned intervention is not delivering the change everyone expected. Sometimes its examining who benefits, who gets left behind, and how gender, power and inequality shape those outcomes.Other times, its bringing people with very different perspectives into a room and helping them work through difficult questions, challenge assumptions and find a way forward.My work spans evaluation, gender equality and social inclusion, strategic facilitation, and organisational learning.I draw on systems thinking and participatory approaches, but I am far more interested in what people do with the insights than in the tools themselves as meeting targets is not always the same as making a difference.I help organisations close the gap between what they set out to achieve, what is actually happening, and what they can do differently.
