About
Executive Director of IEA, the global authority on energy. Big Galatasaray fan. Since I took office in 2015, we've worked to open the doors of the IEA to the emerging world, ensure energy security during the energy transitions, lead the global energy sector’s fight against climate change and address energy poverty. I took up the position after rising through the ranks of the IEA over two decades — joining as a junior analyst in the mid-1990s and rising to the position of Chief Economist responsible for the IEA’s flagship World Energy Outlook. Prior to my time at the IEA, I spent six years working with OPEC in Vienna. I grew up in Ankara and received an MSc and PhD in energy economics from the Technical University of Vienna. I am a proud honorary life member of Galatasaray Football Club.
