My name is Jason. I am the Managing Director and Cofounder of Arbor Permanent Owners (APO).APO is a permanently capitalised holding company that buys outstanding Australian SMEs and holds them forever. I co-founded APO with Simon Plummer, modelled on Berkshire Hathaway and the Nordic serial acquirers. There is no fund, no vintage year and no exit clock. Our first acquisition was 40 year old manufacturing business East West Engineering, bought from its founder. We look for businesses with: - $10m–$50m in revenue and $3m–$10m in pre-tax profit- A genuine value-add - manufacturing, industrial B2B or critical B2B services that can't be easily commoditised or replicated- Founder or family ownership, usually with a succession question and no obvious internal answer- Australian headquarters We buy up to 100% and we buy once. Founders can step out on a timeline that suits them or stay on as shareholders. We keep the name, the brand and the people, and we back the existing team with capital and a board rather than replacing it with our own. As business owners and founders ourselves, we know what's at stake when it comes to owning, managing and growing SMEs. We view ourselves as custodians of businesses, and take that responsibility very seriously.
