About
Kevin Roose is an award-winning journalist, bestselling author, and one of the most widely read chroniclers of the AI era. He is the co-host of Machine Gods, a podcast about AI produced in partnership with NPR, and a contributing writer at The Atlantic. From 2017 to 2026, Roose was a technology columnist at The New York Times, where he co-created and co-hosted Hard Fork, the Times's flagship tech podcast, with Casey Newton. His reporting on AI — including his viral 2023 conversation with Bing's chatbot "Sydney" — helped define public understanding of the technology's promise and risks. He also created and hosted Rabbit Hole, an acclaimed eight-part New York Times podcast about how the internet warps belief, and won a Gerald Loeb Award for his AI commentary.Roose is the author of four books: most recently, The AGI Chronicles, a ten-year history of the race between OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind to create artificial general intelligence. His previous books -- Futureproof, Young Money, and The Unlikely Disciple -- examined AI survival strategies, young Wall Street financiers, and the semester he spent undercover at Liberty University as a college student. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his family.
