About
We are all busy becoming somebody. But what if the journey is about becoming NOBODY? To find the answer I gave it all up, and disappeared for 3 years. Before I tell you what I learned, let me show you where I’ve been. My teens? I felt invisible. I was desperate to fit in. My twenties? I had a chip on my shoulder. Painfully shy? Nope, I wanted undeniable charisma. My thirties? I had it all according to the external world: Influence, recognition and “success”. One million followers, speaking on the biggest stages, advising billion-dollar companies… Then at age 40, the Universe slapped me in the face. I remember lying in bed feeling lifeless, soulless, wondering why I couldn't get up. "Clinical depression, Ahmad. That's my diagnosis," casually said the doctor. Me? Clinically depressed? Seriously!? I guess that’s what happens when you’re success-hungry, yet spiritually starved. I was reminded of Jim Carrey's famous words. Perhaps me being 'depressed' was my body needing 'deep rest' from the character I'd been playing. For decades I was busy ‘being somebody’. And it led to suffering. So I knew what I had to do: peel back the layers of my ego, and identity. And become 'nobody'. Ever tried hugging a cactus? The next few years felt like exactly that. Confronting uncomfortable realities, embracing prickly flaws, and learning to let go. Then it hit me. I didn't need more accolades, awards and admiration. My soul craved peace, freedom and simplicity. And one day, the Universe answered my prayers with a highly unexpected book. Which book? "Autobiography of a Yogi" by Paramahansa Yogananda. I had questions, and this book had the answers. Every page felt like I was being reunited with someone and something I’d once known, but long forgotten. This book wasn't just a guide; it was a map with directions. I found meditation, reconnected with nature... But more than anything, I chose presence over performance and detached from a relentless pursuit of more. This book reaffirmed a simple truth: I was done trying to BECOME somebody, and done with DOING. My life was now about UN-BECOMING everything I am not, and simply BEING. I have nothing to preach, nothing to teach and nothing to sell you. Like you, I’m still figuring it out. If you feel called to learn more, no need to hit the follow button. Instead, remember the book that changed my life? I invite you to read it. That was my first step, and maybe, it can be yours too. If you feel compelled to learn from my mistakes, path and journey ahead… Join me….as we figure this out together.
