About
I lead Content at LinkedIn: the editorial, creator, learning, and monetization teams, and the product experiences behind them. Our goal is to make LinkedIn the daily professional conversation, the place people come to find out what's happening in their world, weigh in, and build an audience around what they know. That work has four parts: • Products. We build the tools that make it easier to post, collaborate, and reach an audience. • Editorial. A global team, from São Paulo to Singapore, covering the economy, business, and the workplace, and getting those stories and conversations to the right people at the right time. • Creators. We find and support the voices professionals want to hear from: executives, topical experts, and full-time professional creators. • Monetization and Learning. We build ways for creators to earn from their work, through BrandLink and other creator monetization, and we run the content that flows through LinkedIn Learning. I started in business journalism because I wanted to explain how companies and entrepreneurs actually work. At LinkedIn, I realized I could tell those stories at far greater scale by helping professionals explain how they think and what they know, often prompted by what's happening in the world. That back-and-forth, one idea building on another, is how we all get smarter, faster, about what we do or want to do. Before LinkedIn, I was a writer and editor. At Wired, I covered the birth of Android and the early days of the electric car industry (my cover story on Better Place was a Loeb Awards finalist). My Wired story on Demand Media and weaponized SEO was included in Yale University Press's Best Technology Writing 2010. I was a founding writer at Condé Nast Portfolio and wrote for Fortune (twice!), where I rebuilt and ran Fortune.com. That's also where I secretly embedded at The Container Store, interviewed Warren Buffett and Bill Gates together, and got a letter from Pat Robertson telling me I was bound for hell (he offered to help). I'm a Northwestern Medill grad who started at the Triangle Business Journal in Raleigh, and I now live in Brooklyn with my wife and three sons. Business Insider once called me "the most powerful business journalist on the Internet," which Im counting on as the lede of my obituary.
